Coding arena - Classroom Challenges 2019

Three challenges. Three challenges. More than 600 participants.

Our presence at AULA 2019 was a great experience for the young people who came to the education fair. To the future coders We set them a total of three challenges: maze, bird and pond. The challenge? In 30 minutes, or less, to solve the 10 steps set out in the programme in order to emerge victorious. Through the screens installed in the Coding ArenaThe participants were able to observe their progress and compare their results with the other participants in order to emerge as winners of the challenge.

More than 600 participants accepted our challenges - do you want to know more about them? Let's get started!

Maze Challenge

An astronaut has lost his spacecraft... and our coders they had to help him find it! Through fundamental programming concepts and using a series of blocks, the participants had to build a program that would allow the astronaut to reach his spacecraft. They had to build the path by learning decision and repetition structures, mainly the "loop". To do this, the participants had access to the Javascript code behind it to get to know the syntax of the language.

Some of them certainly came on strong! This is the case of one of our super-winners @enriquer47, who managed to get the astronaut to find his lost spacecraft... in less than 10 minutes! If you want to enter we leave you the link right here.

Bird Challenge

In this challenge, we continued to work on decision structures, but based on a different objective and working, in turn, on logical capacity through Boolean algebra. The participants had to use the visual blocks to program the bird to catch the worms on the screen in order to feed itself and reach its nest by following the most "optimal" path.

To achieve this, users had to calculate the different angles to guide the hungry protagonist along one path or another, always choosing the most optimal one. As in the previous challenge, participants had access to the Javascript code - we didn't want to pass by Aula keeping the secrets of our challenges to ourselves! And it seems that one of our super winners found the exact key to the challenge. @Cesar99 got our adorable bird to eat and back to the nest in 20:07. Congratulations! If you want to enter we leave you the link right here.

Pond Challenge

The challenge of challenges. On this occasion, the participants had to manage to build a programme that would shoot the rest of the ducks in a pond, with the aim of being the last survivor and achieving glory... and our prizes! @Catsmeow managed in just 7 minutes and 6 seconds to complete the 10-step itinerary needed to pass the challenge. What a machine! On this occasion, both repetition, decision and algebra structures as well as combined decisions were worked on. If you want to enter, we leave you the link right here.

Turtle/ Design

And, for the tireless, we still have an ace up our sleeve! The turtle/design challenge was set up for those who coders who were still looking for one more challenge. In this challenge, the participants were asked, through 10 steps, to learn how to use loop structures and decision conditions resulting in geometric designs drawn on the screen. The result? Minutes of fun programming commands, drawing traces, twists and various shapes!
