IMPACTFUL TECH: THE MEETING POINT FOR INDUSTRY PROFESSIONALS AND EXPERTS

What is Impactful Tech?

Last March, IMMUNE Coding Institute kicked off the Impactful Tech initiative, a series of conferences and debates where professionals and experts from different sectors analyse the key aspects of technological transformation. Thus, specialists meet with a double objective: to analyse the current situation of the sector and the digital challenges they face, as well as to discuss possible solutions to overcome them.

During the Impactful Tech cycles, technologies that are strongly impacting our economy, drivers of change such as AI and Machine Learning, Blockchain or Cybersecurity, the topic of the first of these debates, are discussed. The cybersecurity is a discipline that should be given as much prominence as possible in our day-to-day lives, since in a society with more than 4.3 billion users In the Internet, keeping our information safe is key.

In other words, cybersecurity is considered extremely important at both the personal and professional level, as we can put at risk private data, such as a credit card number, or sensitive business data, such as the confidential data of an institution's customers. Thus, visit the risks we face online and taking steps to avoid them becomes an almost mandatory activity for all online users.

The biggest risk in cybersecurity: lack of talent

At the Impactful Tech meeting on cybersecurity, one of the issues of greatest concern for companies in the sector was addressed: the lack of talent. It began by presenting the general problem of the shortage of professionals in the technology sector, as well as the main challenges of the current educational model in STEM sciences, and more specifically, in cybersecurity. It also analysed the competencies and skills most in demand by leading companies in the sector and the initiatives to promote female talent in technology careers.

Participating in the debate were Félix Barrio, Manager of Industry, R&D and Talent at INCIBE; Silvia Barrera, expert in cybersecurity and cybercrime; José Parada, CISO at Telefónica Digital and Beatriz Ruiz, Head of Global Human Resources People Culture at S21Sec.

Sector skills and knowledge

Among the conclusions of this first Impactful Tech are specialisation as key and the combination of different skills, which make cybersecurity experts a professional profile that can help internally in the company in different ways. Both have a point in common, which is motivated by the failure to update content The need to create an innovative training model that is useful for both companies and future workers.

Attracting and receiving talent

Another of the conclusions drawn from this first debate is the need to attract and retain talent in companies, with an emphasis on retaining female talent, as the representation of women in the cybersecurity sector is a meagre 11%. We face an uncertain employment future, where more than 60% of students in primary school will be in a job that does not yet exist. A change of mindset is needed here in line with the change that companies are preparing for. As the CEO of ManpowerGroupAccording to Raúl Grijalba, companies will move from needing profiles specialised in hospitality and tourism to others with more digital features... and we must be prepared.
