DO YOU KNOW WHAT THE FAVOURITE LANGUAGE OF PROGRAMMERS IS?

We communicate, work and cook, among many other tasks, with devices that have been programmed to help us in our daily lives. Various programming languages are used to design these devices, set their functions and make them respond to what we need.

There are hundreds of programming languages, but which are the most used, which is the favourite among programmers? There are different rankings that tell us which are the most used and popular among users.

One of these rankings is the TIOBE index, which measures, according to the queries that are made about different languages, the popularity of these languages. One of the most searched languages in 2018 was Python, which is why it was named as the "Language of the Year" in 2018, a title supported by the increase in growth on Stack Overflow.

What is Python?

It is a programming language designed by Guido van Rossum in the late 1980s. At the beginning of January last year, it was used by almost 26% of web programmers, who, after it, prefer to work with Java (21.4%), JavaScript (8.3%), C# (7.6%) and PHP (7.4%), options they will continue to opt for in April 2019.

When can it be used?

As a cross-platform and multi-paradigm language that stands out for its readable code, it is used on platforms that register very high traffic, such as Google, Youtube and Facebook. The main objective of programmers when using this language is to automate processes, thus saving time and complications.

As Python is one of the most versatile languages on the current scene, we can find projects written in this language of all kinds: from security tools to mathematics, as well as others of various utilities. Moreover, more and more programmers are choosing this language to apply it to machine learning and data science.

Netflix also uses Python

The platform of streaming has used this language to write a large part of its platform's code. Thus, Netflix engineers have applied it in different areas, including both the areas involved in guaranteeing the security of the portal and those in charge of recommending series or films, as well as its own content distribution network. Another area in which this language has been used is Demand Engineering, which allocates and distributes resources according to traffic and failover, guaranteeing a better functioning of the platform regardless of when it is used.
