Our Software Development Engineering Degree is one of IMMUNE's flagship groups. And for its direction, what better than to count on the support of Carmen Navacerrada.
Navacerrada studied computer engineering and has extensive experience as a programmer, programmer analyst and trainer. It also specialises in web development.
We chat with this computer engineer, teacher and head of CEB at IMMUNEabout the degree and the advantages it brings for future tech professionals:
I think there are many reasons to study a degree in Software Development Engineering. If I had to highlight some of them, apart from the most obvious one which is that you really like software development, that you like all the technology and what is close to computers; I think there are other important reasons of a different nature such as: the importance of software development in our lives.
Right now, software development is in practically every sector of our society, which means that is cross-cutting. And whether you like one sector or another will not influence whether you can work in one of them, because software development will always be there.
In addition, there is a high labour demand for this type of professional.so you are practically guaranteed a job opportunity. And I would almost say that in the sector of your choice: if you like healthcare or if you like the latest technologies, you will be able to choose the path you want. All with just one degree.
Yes, that's what I was saying. Right now, if this study also says that the 100%, you are virtually guaranteed to have a job. In addition to the salary issue, it is important to highlight that our profession allows you to work in Spain or in any other country in the world, which increases your chances of improving your salary. Your salary will be adapted to the country where you work.
Not only if you work here in Spain, in an office, in person... you will be able to review your salary annually and grow in that aspect; but if you work in any country in the world, the salary will depend on that country. And there are many countries where this profession is highly valued and very well paid.so the options are of course expanding.
Telework in our field has always existed. But in recent years, it has become necessary for telework to exist in other areas as well, and this has meant that we have needed to develop technologies that allow professionals in other areas to telework as well.
New systems, new programmes, adapting to the situation of each person... this makes it necessary for new programmers, new software developers to appear, who can make it possible for all those people who are not technical to be able to work from their homes.
So, something that we have always had possible, because with an internet connection and a computer we could telework; we had to allow a lot of professionals to do it now, so new developers needed to develop these tools to make this possible.
Right now, the options are virtually endless and there are many different technologies within our field. The cybersecurityThe new software, which started to gain momentum a few years ago and is now fully present in our lives, is one of the great pillars of software development.
Big Data and the Data Scienceanalysing data is something that all companies have - even if it is a small team - to be able to analyse the data, to be able to treat their customers better and to be able to improve themselves as a company.
Artificial Intelligence: robots or how we try to make machines think like humans. And we are still far from achieving this, which means that it is a field that is going to grow, that is going to increase and that is going to need more and more professionals.
Cryptocurrencies, Blockchain, is also very bullish. The metaverse, which we are starting to hear so much about... these are all paths that you can choose and that you can choose, once you do this Degree in Software Development.
The correct answer, I would say all of them. And if I have to be a bit more specific... maybe there is some company that still doesn't have a website or a small system, but I find it quite difficult. Even the smallest, most classic and typical company has 'something' behind it that has software. Whether it is to communicate with each other, something internal; whether it is to communicate with their customers, an informative website; there is always something behind it. And, of course, let's not talk about the big companies.
So, from the smallest, most classic thing, to the most innovative thing; today, it's going to need some development behind it.
I don't think there is a defined profile, which is a potential computer science student. There are many equally valid competences, but perhaps the most important is the desire. I believe that, if you want to study this and you work hard at it, you will succeed.
So I would say that the vocation, the desire to learn would be the indispensable competence to study a Development Degree. from Software.
There are several things that IMMUNE has in particular that are not studied in the same way in other centres and, above all, in other more traditional methodologies. One of the ones I personally like the most is the practical one.
The fact that classes are more focused on practice than theory means that students are more prepared for the real world. This is something that is sorely lacking in these traditional degrees.
One student studied four, five years of computer engineering and when he arrived at the company he didn't know what to do. They hadn't explained to him what the real work was like; everything was much more theoretical.
The good thing about IMMUNE is that from the beginning we work with projects, with real practices. To help them in what will be their work in the future.
Because in a job they are not going to give you an exam to answer questions, they are going to tell you "you have to do this and in this period of time"; that's how we work. By telling them what they have to do, giving them the tools to do it and accompanying them along the way so that they can They are thus confronted with what will be their working future.
