Introduction to Quantum Computing for High-Performance Computing
Online technical session for software developers, engineers, and IT professionals who want to understand the real impact of quantum computing, from an honest perspective.

Quantum computing is no longer just theory: quantum computers exist today. The global quantum technology industry reached around £1.6 billion in 2025 and is expected to reach £3.5 billion in 2028. In 2025, Europe's first IBM Quantum System Two was installed in San Sebastián, consolidating Spain's position as a relevant player in this field. Madrid is becoming a hub for the quantum industry, with the presence of major global companies and local businesses. Furthermore, it is estimated that institutions, through Spain's first National Quantum Technologies Strategy, will invest more than £800 million between 2025 and 2030, boosting talent, research, and industry.
This is starting to transform how we invest in technology and is completely changing the landscape of cryptography, simulation, and critical systems optimisation.
In this 60-minute online masterclass, IMMUNE brings together an expert in Quantum Computing and High-Performance Computing (HPC) from the United States to clearly explain what this all means for your work today and in the coming years.
Meet the speaker
Keenan Powers
Quantum Scientist, specialising in Quantum Computing and High-Performance Computing. Focused on developing the future quantum workforce and advancing applied quantum technologies.

Your experience combines:
- Development of quantum algorithms and machine learning solutions.
- Integration of HPC backend software, DevOps, and complex systems simulation.
- Education and training of new generations of mathematicians, engineers and scientists in quantum technologies.
You have participated in academic and educational initiatives, helping to train the next generation of quantum scientists and engineers, and have led or contributed to research projects at leading universities and public institutions.
Who is it for?
This session is for you if:
- You work in computational optimisation, materials science, high-performance computing, or computational/analytical chemistry.
- Are you a software developer or cybersecurity specialist, particularly in backend, systems engineering, or DevOps?.
- Do you work in algorithm design or are you interested in moving from software development to prototyping new algorithms?.
- Are you involved in or interested in the training and development of technological talent, at a key moment when training in quantum technologies is still in its infancy.
- You are a machine learning engineer or cybersecurity specialist, or you are directly affected by the major advances in these areas.
- You work in a cybersecurity SOC or in analyst, architect, or red/blue team roles and want to anticipate the impact of quantum computing on cryptography and operations.
- You are a Systems, Networks, Cloud, or HPC engineer and need to understand how quantum computers will be integrated into hybrid architectures.
- You hold technical roles in the public sector, telecommunications, or critical infrastructure and are looking for a clear, non-academic overview of risks and opportunities.
- Do you want a concrete roadmap of what you should be learning in the next 12–24 months so you don't get left behind as quantum computing matures.
Level: Content aimed at senior profiles, but accessible to technical professionals who do not come from a quantum background.
What will you take away from the masterclass
At the end of the session:
- You will get an honest overview of what is truly possible today with quantum computing: NISQ devices, algorithms like QAOA, noise mitigation techniques, error correction, and what still remains in the realm of research.
- You will have a clear and realistic perspective on the future potential of quantum computing.
- You will understand what exactly a quantum computer is and how it can offer an advantage over classical computing for certain problems.
- You will encounter real and experimental use cases in cryptography, simulation, and optimisation of complex, high-impact systems.
- You'll see how quantum computing integrates with current HPC and cloud architectures, and what this implies for engineering and security teams.
- You'll receive an upskilling roadmap: skills, technologies, and learning paths you should incorporate into your stack over the next 12–24 months to stay relevant.
