As we explained in previous postsWhile Artificial Intelligence is the "broad" concept, where machines are attributed the ability to carry out tasks in a similar way to human intelligence; Machine Learning is the application of this intelligence to machines with one objective: that they learn by themselves.

But what are these technologies used for, and what benefits do they bring to our daily lives?

Increased security

Machine learning technology can do more for us than we realise. For example, it can be of great use to us in terms of security of data. At this level, machine learning can help us predict which of the files arriving in our inbox are malware with high accuracy, by identifying different patterns in how this malicious file accesses stored data and reporting anomalies that can lead to a vulnerability. Paypal is also using machine learning to combat money laundering. The US company has tools that analyse and compare millions of transactions, distinguishing between legitimate and fraudulent transactions and between buyers and sellers.

Increased performance

Both Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning are applied in the business world with the main objective of improving customer service. For example, thanks to the automation of processes, the user can get to what they are looking for more quickly, eliminating previous steps that the machine learning algorithm has already learned. Neuro-linguistic programming has also helped in this task. This technology has been used, for example, to translate the legal jargon used in different contracts into a simple and accessible language for users.

Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning have also helped the development of e-commerce. Chatbots, programmes that simulate a conversation with the user based on a series of automated responses defined by their developers, make it possible to automate responses, save staff costs, boost communication and brand reputation in their social networks and are really useful when talking about the use of new IT services or in the management of purchases.

Better watch out...

... of our health. Artificial Intelligence, beyond putting doctors "out of a job", is not only leaving them will assist and complement in their activity. This alliance between machines and specialists has led to the development of different technologies that, for example, help us to recognise a heart attack over the phone. The Dutch startup Corti has created an Artificial Intelligence that recognises words, hidden clues and reads between the lines in order to recognise a heart attack during an emergency call, and RadIO has been developed to detect cancer early, without resorting to specialised devices.

Just like Laguna developed this algorithm, you can also learn how to do it... and you don't need to be an expert to do it. Do you have an idea and want to put it into action? At IMMUNE, we make it possible thanks to our Specialized Bootcamp: Applied Machine Learning.

And not only this one, since our centre offers different degrees and masters specialised in new technologies, as well as the degree in software engineering Do you want to know more?
